The Pope sent a letter to the people of Nicaragua, something he had wanted to do for a long time. He himself explains it in the letter, published on the occasion of the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, patroness of the country.

With a heartfelt and pastoral tone, the pontiff tells them that he is with them and that they should trust in God, because he is present even in the most difficult moments, adding that he is certain that faith and hope work miracles.

The political climate in Nicaragua continues to worsen. A few days ago, Daniel Ortega again reformed the Constitution. Among the changes, his wife will now be "co-president" and will have control of the three branches of government.

As for Catholics, persecution is constant. Such oppression ranges from the canceling institutions such as the Society of Jesus, to prohibiting priests from administering the sacraments, to the expulsion of the clergy from the country.
