These will be very difficult months for them. The combination of war and cold is tragic. I appeal once again to the international community and to every man and woman of good will to make every effort to stop this war and to make dialogue, fraternity and reconciliation prevail.
On the other hand, Francis applauded the cease-fire in the Middle East. Although, in view of the imminent arrival of Christmas, he asked for more to be done.

May efforts for peace be multiplied at all levels and as we prepare for Christmas, as we await the birth of the King of Peace, let these peoples be given concrete hope. The quest for peace is the responsibility not of a few, but of all.
Francis also lamented the resurgence of violence in Syria, a country whose evolution he followed closely in recent years.
