The Feast of Christ the King marks the end of the liturgical year. It’s also traditionally dedicated to young people, many of whom were present at the Pope’s Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica on Sunday.

He encouraged them to be courageous and to stop seeking success or self-affirmation at all costs. Pope Francis said this is not the way to solve any real problems and is really more like putting on make-up.

POPE FRANCIS
Do not make up your souls. Do not make up your hearts. Be as you are. Be sincere. Be transparent. Don't be stars for a day on social media or anywhere else.

Among those present were young people from South Korea, where the next World Youth Day will be held in 2027. During the ceremony, a delegation of youth from Portugal, where the last edition took place, handed them the World Youth Day cross and an image of Our Lady.

POPE FRANCIS
You, young Koreans, will receive the Cross of the Lord, Cross of life, sign of victory. But not only: you will receive it together with Our Mother. It is Mary who always accompanies us to Jesus.

The Pope concluded by encouraging young people to rediscover the value of unconditional love. Love without boundaries or self-interest.
