Every November, a week is dedicated to remembering the plight of persecuted Christians. An international initiative that has been celebrated since 2015.
It's called Red Week. It's a global campaign organized by Aid to the Church in Need. Its main objective is to raise awareness of this problem.
That is why buildings, monuments and hundreds of churches around the world are illuminated in red. A color that evokes the shed blood of the millions of Christian martyrs.
The first Red Week demonstration took place in Rio de Janeiro where the giant image of Christ the Redeemer was illuminated in red in honor of the Christians killed in Iraq.
As is tradition, the most relevant initiatives are celebrated on "Red Wednesday". In Rome, monuments such as the Trevi Fountain and the Colosseum were illuminated in this color.
