Flipping a coin in the Trevi Fountain a month ago….almost became a risky sport.
This was the panorama that tourists encountered when they arrived in Rome: lots of scaffolding, fences and almost a race to get the best photo… that's right… a few meters away. Some have had no choice but to accept it.
Sad, but still one takes advantage of it. I thought it was nice. It is the first time in Rome.
Others have been disappointed. They had been planning this trip for a long time.
A little frustrated, because that was the idea: to come and enjoy what they promote internationally, but I come here and I find a totally different reality.
Local authorities have tried to fix it. The fountain has to be restored for the Jubilee, but tourists also wish to continue to throw in the coin.
The solution: empty the fountain of water and install a small portable pool. It may not be the original, but look, it's still overflowing.
And for the curious who want to admire it closely… This catwalk. But to catch the famous photo, check the schedule, because it is not open 24 hours, but from nine to nine.
What is clear is that no matter what, with pool or walkway, it is still an attraction. According to the city council, in the first six days since it was installed, 44,000 people passed through.
It's impossible to resist throwing a coin from your wallet to fulfill the dream of one day returning to Rome.
