(ONLY VIDEO) During the weekly public catechesis the Pope explained what he called "the richness of charisms" in the Church: "understanding the richness of charisms helps to appreciate the role of the laity in the Church, since the laity possess charisms and gifts of their own with which they contribute in a special way to her mission in the world".
SUMMARY OF THE POPE'S CATECHESIS IN SPANISH:
Dear brothers and sisters:
In our catechesis on the Holy Spirit in the life of the Church, we now turn from the Spirit’s work of sanctification to his building up the Body of Christ through the outpouring of charismatic gifts. Charisms, in all their rich variety, are special graces bestowed on individuals for the upbuilding of the Church in unity and holiness.
The Second Vatican Council spoke of the importance of the particular charisms granted to the laity, by which they, and women in particular, contribute to the Church’s mission. Saint Paul reminds us that these gifts, great and small, are at the service of charity, the love of Christ which is their source and to which they are directed. Let us thank the Spirit for adorning the Church with these manifold gifts and ask him to continue to bestow them in abundance.
I extend a warm welcome to the English-speaking pilgrims and visitors taking part in today’s Audience, especially those coming from Norway, Australia, South Korea, Taiwan, the Philippines and the United States of America. Upon all of you, and upon your families, I invoke the joy and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ! God bless you!
