Pope Francis again called for solidarity for the areas affected by the climate catastrophe in Spain, which has already left more than 220 dead and hundreds more homeless.

POPE FRANCIS
I ask you a question: have you prayed for Valencia? Have you thought about making any contributions to help those people? It's just a question.

Gestures of solidarity are vital to helping the many people affected by the tragedy. Entire towns and villages have been cut off without food and water for days.

During the Angelus, Pope Francis also urged
the international community to make a greater commitment to combat climate change, especially in view of the COP29 world summit that takes place this month.

POPE FRANCIS
In this regard, I hope that the COP 29 climate change conference starting tomorrow in Baku will make an effective contribution to the protection of our common home.

The Pope always makes a point of acknowledging beatifications taking place around the world, and he asks those present in St Peter's Square to do the same. In this case he asked for a round of applause for Father Torres Padilla, who was beatified in Seville, Spain, on Saturday.
