The Pope first celebrated Mass here in 2018. This time, his message was expressed more in a gesture than in words: a silent prayer before the graves of children who died, and of unborn babies, in what’s called “The Garden of Angels”.

During the Mass he did not deliver a homily either. When he visited the cemetery back in 2018, he had stressed the importance of reflecting on our family history, not only those who are deceased, but those who are alive today.

POPE FRANCIS

Memory makes us understand that we are not alone. We are a people. A people that has a history, that has a past and that has life. It is the memory of many who have shared the path with us, and who are here.

The image of Pope Francis when he was here six years ago is very different. Still, at 87 years of age, and confined to a wheelchair, he still continues to maintain a rhythm of public and official meetings without major variations with respect to when he began his pontificate.
