The day on which the Pope will open the holy door of a prison for the Jubilee has been announced. It will be on December 26. The prison where he will go: Rebibbia, in Rome.

This is not Pope Francis' first visit to this prison. The pontiff was there for the first time on Holy Thursday in 2015. There, he washed the feet of 12 male and female inmates.

The Pope returned that same day, but nine years later, in 2024. For the first time, a pontiff did the foot washing only with women, unlike his predecessors.

Now, in view of the Holy Year 2025, Pope Francis wants to put the inmates back in the spotlight. And not only with words or symbolic gestures, such as the opening of the holy door. But also with concrete deeds.

On September 11, we signed an agreement with the Minister of Justice of the Italian Republic, Mr. Carlo Nordio, and with the Government Commissioner, Mr. Roberto Gualtieri, to make effective during the Jubilee year forms of reintegration for various prisoners through their participation in socially committed activities.

At the international level, and reflected in the Jubilee Bull, the Pope has also called for forms of amnesty or remission of sentences in order to restore hope in society.
