This afternoon, Pope Francis will go to St. John Lateran, the cathedral of Rome, the city of which the pope is bishop. It will be to participate in the diocesan assembly; specifically, he will conclude a work at the local level that began in February under the name 'Inequalities'.

It is a path that, in these months, has tried to analyze the strongest problems of exclusion in the Italian capital: from health, to living or work, to education.

The pillar of the Pope's pontificate has been the periphery, that is, helping people who are suffering, who are excluded. Pope Francis has not failed to take advantage of his public interventions to put this theme on the table.

POPE FRANCIS
It is serious that we become accustomed to this discarding. It is necessary to worry when our conscience becomes anesthetized and ignores the suffering brothers and sisters next door, or the serious problems of the world that end up becoming refrains already heard on the news”.

The meetings set up by the diocese to deal with these points were held in peripheral locations in Rome. The protagonists of each field, i.e. students, health personnel, local associations and economists, took part.

The meeting will be presided over by the Vicar of the Diocese, Bishop Baldo Reina. Representatives of institutions and civil society will also go to the papal basilica.
