During the Mass at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels, Pope Francis beatified the Spanish Anne of Jesus, a disciple of St. Teresa of Avila. She was her “right hand” and was in charge of compiling the works of the founder of the Discalced Carmelite Order.
On June 11, the Vatican announced that she would be beatified and, with the Pope's scheduled trip to Belgium, it would be Francis himself who would preside over the celebration.
Anne of Jesus is well known in Belgium. She founded several monasteries and died in Brussels, the city where she was beatified.
