Before starting his agenda for the day, Pope Francis shared a breakfast in a 19th century church with special company: nine men and women who are refugees or in economic need.

The coffees and croissants served were not only for Francis' visit. Every morning, this church opens its doors to help people who are struggling start their day.

Those who go to this parish also have the opportunity to learn a trade. In this case, beer production. They even shared some with the Pope.

I'm glad to see how love here continually fuels everyone's fellowship and creativity. You even came up with “La Biche de Saint Gilles” and I imagine it is a very good beer. I will tell you in the afternoon if it is good or not.

According to the Belgian Red Cross, Brussels had 7,000 people living on the streets at the beginning of the year, many of them children. A surprising reality, given that the political and economic center of the European Union is located close to the sites of this pastoral work.
