An honor guard on horseback escorted Pope Francis into the Belgian Palace of Laeken. As his first public event in Belgium, Pope Francis met with the Belgian Royals, including King Philip Leopold Lodewijk Maria and Queen Mathilde d'Udekem d'Acoz.
The Queen of Belgium is one of the seven women in the world allowed to wear white while meeting the Pope, something reserved only for Catholic monarchs.
