One of the key moments of the Pope's trip to Indonesia was his visit to the largest mosque in the country with the most Muslims in the world.
The Grand Imam of Istiqlal received Pope Francis. The two visited the entrance of the tunnel of friendship that links the Cathedral of the Assumption with the mosque.
People were waiting eagerly to greet the Pope and ask for his blessing. He has been received enthusiastically in Indonesia.
Then the highly anticipated moment arrived: the meeting with leaders of different religions.
And their message from Southeast Asia to the world was clear:
POPE FRANCIS
May no one succumb to the allure of fundamentalism and violence. Rather, may everyone be captivated by the dream of a free, fraternal and peaceful society and humanity.
In addition to this message of unity in the face of religious fanaticism, the leaders also called for united efforts to care for the environment and combat climate change—a call they extended to everyone around the world.
