This was the Pope's first appearance after a thirteen-hour flight from Rome to Jakarta. He disembarked, as he has done in recent years, in a wheelchair. Beforehand the country's Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Piero Pioppo, greeted him.
The reception was simple. In addition to some local authorities, the Archbishop of Jakarta, Cardinal Ignatius Suharyo, was present. And after the greeting, Pope Francis went directly to the nunciature.
