Between August 6 and 9, 1945, two Japanese cities were bombed, leaving almost 250,000 people dead. Pope Francis recalled these tragic events during his Sunday Angelus.
POPE FRANCIS
These days we have been remembering the anniversary of the atomic bombing of the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. As we continue to entrust to the Lord the victims of those events and of all wars, let us renew our intense prayer for peace, especially for the martyred Ukraine, for the Middle East, Palestine, Israel, Sudan and Myanmar.
The Pope also prayed for those who died in the plane crash in Brazil on August 9.
POPE FRANCIS
Let us also pray for the victims of the tragic plane crash in Brazil.
There were 62 people on board, including a 3-year-old girl and a 4-year-old boy. There were no survivors.
