The Nicaraguan government has announced that a group of 7 priests have been sent to Rome and received by the Vatican. All of them left the Central American country on Wednesday, August 7.
The Vatican has not released details about the negotiation that led to freeing this third group of priests from the regime of Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega.
The other two groups of priests were released from Nicaragua several months ago. There were 12 priests who arrived in October 2023 and 16 who arrived in January of this year, including a bishop and two seminarians.The prelate was none other than the Bishop of Matagalpa, who had been detained since 2022.
