This summer, tourists will be able to experience the Eternal City at night like never before. The city of Rome is launching the first edition of “One Night at the Colosseum.”

With this new program, the ancient amphitheatre will be open for guided night visits every Thursday from 8pm to midnight. Tours will be offered in Italian and English and last about an hour.

The visit will include video projections and stops in the arena and underground areas.

This is not the first initiative offering extended or different hours ahead of the Jubilee. This year, the Vatican Museums also changed their opening hours from 9am to 6pm to 8am to 7pm—an extra two hours to “improve the quality and safety” of visits.
