This was the olive tree planted 10 years ago in the Vatican Gardens as a symbol of peace between Israel and Palestine.

In his reflection, Pope Francis called on everyone not to forget the gesture made by the presidents of Israel and Palestine in the same spot in 2014, that was this gesture for peace.

POPE FRANCIS
Today, remembering that event is important, especially in light of what is unfortunately happening in Palestine and Israel.
In a time marked by tragic conflicts, there is a need for a renewed commitment to building a peaceful world.

The Pope also reiterated the call for a cease-fire, the release of the hostages, humanitarian aid for the Palestinian population and the rebuilding of houses destroyed by the bombing so that those who were forced to abandon them can return to their homes.

POPE FRANCIS
Peace, in fact, is not made only on paper agreements or on the tables of human and political compromises. It comes from transformed hearts; it arises when each of us is reached and touched by God's love, which dissolves our selfishness, shatters our prejudices and gives us the taste and joy of friendship, fraternity and mutual solidarity.

Pope Francis recited the same prayer for peace that the leaders said all together a decade ago. And at the end, Jewish, Muslim and Orthodox Church representatives watered the same olive tree planted in 2014.

Also attending the celebration were ambassadors accredited to the Holy See and a score of cardinals residing in Rome.
