Following Mass on the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, a procession from St. John Lateran to St. Mary Major took place through the streets of Rome, as is customary for this feast day.
Pope Francis had not attended this procession since 2017. In other years, he went out of Rome for the celebration. Then, there were restrictions due to the COVID pandemic. And for the past two years, he has not been able to be present for health reasons.
The Pope participated at the beginning and end, presiding at the Mass in the cathedral of his diocese and, afterwards, imparting the blessing to the faithful at the doors of the basilica where the icon of the Salus Populi Romani is located.
