Pope Francis landed at the women's prison on Giudecca Island in Venice. His trip was for the Art Biennale, an exhibition of international artists where the Holy See has its own pavilion entitled “With My Eyes.”
The prison houses 80 women. After the Pope's first appearance, the female inmates stood up to welcome him with applause.
