Pope Francis met with superiors and delegates of the Discalced Carmelite nuns and asked them to look to the future without losing sight of their roots.

POPE FRANCIS
Remaining interiorly open to what the Holy Spirit wants to suggest to you, you have the task of finding new languages, new ways, new instruments that will more enthusiastically promote the contemplative life that the Lord has called you all to embrace, so that the charism may be preserved—the charism is the same—but that it may become understood and attract many hearts.

The Discalced Carmelites originated from St. Teresa of Avila and her reform of the female Carmelite institution in the 16th century.
