The war in Ukraine continues to rage on and tensions between Israel and Iran are growing. And in St. Peter's Square, Pope Francis renewed his call for peace.
POPE FRANCIS
Our thoughts, at this moment, go towards the people in war. We think of the Holy Land, Palestine, Israel; we think of Ukraine, the suffering Ukraine. We think of the prisoners of war that the Lord moves the will for the release of everyone.
The Pope also expressed sorrow for the abuses commented during war.
POPE FRANCIS
Speaking of prisoners, it comes to mind that they are tortured. Torture is an ugly thing; it is not human. We think of the numerous tortures that wound the human dignity of the person.
The document, Dignitatis Infinita, published recently by the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, lists the “grave violation” against human dignity. Regarding war, the document says that none of these “are worth the tears of a mother that has seen her mutilated or dead child.”
