Pope Francis continues to prioritize the role of women in the Church. For the third time in a row, this was one of the topics discussed in the meeting of the Council of Cardinals, the group of nine who advise the Pope.

The Pope has continually emphasized that the female role in the Church needs to be addressed by listening to the testimonies and opinions of women from different backgrounds.

To do this, he invited missionary sister, Regina da Costa Pedro, to the meeting. She is the first woman to hold the position of director of Pontifical Mission Works in Brazil. Sr. Regina recounted stories and concrete examples of some Brazilian women.

Pr. Stella Morra was also present. She made an analysis of how various cultures recognize the role of women in different parts of the world.

This was not the first time Pope Francis brought women to the Council meetings. During the last session, a female Anglican bishop, consecrated virgin and student studying Theology from the point of view of women were all present.

Beyond the question of the role of women, other topics were also discussed. For example, the Council spoke about the Synod with a report presented by Cardinal Mario Grech and Fr. Piero Coda.

During this April session, each cardinal provided information on the social, political and religious situations in different regions and how to apply Praedicate evangelium in the dioceses worldwide.

The two day meeting did not forget to speak about and pray for the numerous wars around the world, with a specific focus on the Middle East and Ukraine. The next session of the Council of Cardinals will take place in June.
