The non-profit organization Open Arms has a team of professional lifeguards who dive into the Mediterranean Sea to save the lives of migrants and refugees who are victims of shipwrecks. In 2016, the members gave a lifejacket to Pope Francis to represent this work.

The World Central Kitchen is another humanitarian organization that specializes in cooking and offers food to victims of natural disasters, wars or poverty.

The two organizations have joined forces to do what no one has been able to do since the conflict began: bring food to Gaza through the sea. For almost 20 years, Gaza has suffered a naval blockade by Egypt and Israel, but faced with the difficulties of getting food and medicines by land, these two organizations decided to take the plunge and test their luck. Some governments have supported their work—from the United States to Qatar—including the European Commission. And the work has been successful. In their first mission, they carried up to 200 tons of food. And the members of the organizations hope to continue this work until the conflict ends.
