Pope Francis has written a letter to migrants who are crossing one of the most dangerous routes in the world: the Darien Gap, between Colombia and Panama.
In the letter, the Pope says he is the son of migrants who left in search of a better future. And he urges the migrants to “never forget their human dignity.” He also thanks the bishops and pastoral agents for their service to those in need.
The Darien Gap involves nearly 60 miles of jungle with no paved roads. It stretches across northern Colombia and southern Panama. A record half a million people traveled this gap in 2023 alone.
