Pope Francis welcomed more than 15,000 pilgrims in St. Peter's Square.
After praying the Angelus, the Pope dedicated a few words to women facing discrimination, just a few days after International Women's Day.
POPE FRANCIS
There is still a lot of work that each of us must do in order for there to be concrete recognition of the equal dignity of women. It is the institutions, both social and political, that have the fundamental duty to protect and promote the dignity of every human being by providing women, the bearers of life, with the necessary conditions to be able to accept the gift of life and ensure a dignified existence for their children.
Pope Francis also spoke about the crisis in Haiti, where gang violence has led to a state of emergency.
He added his support for the Muslim community as they begin Ramadan—a month of fasting and prayer.
