Pope Francis has once again sent the Vatican official Jordi Bertomeu to Peru. This time, to investigate alleged financial irregularities attributed to the ecclesiastical community “Pro Ecclesia Sancta,” an institute of consecrated life.

The accusations occurred in October 2023, when a Peruvian television program accused the community of failing to repay a loan of 1.2 million dollars.

The Archbishop of Lima announced that Bertomeu, the Vatican official sent by Pope Francis, will be in the capital until March 12.

This is the second time in less than a year that Bertomeu has traveled to Peru as an envoy of the Pope. He was there in July 2023 with the Archbishop of Malta to investigate a different corruption case of a lay group called Sodality of Christian Life.

In this case, several leaders of this movement were investigated for allegedly sexually abusing 36 people between 1975 and 2009.
