Pope Francis welcomed the thousands of pilgrims attending his General Audience in St. Peter's Square. For the first time after several months of cold weather, the audience was held under the sun in the Square. The Pope greeted those present from the popemobile.

On this day, he announced he would not read his speech due to his health condition. This is the second consecutive audience that he has made this decision.

However, Pope Francis wanted to deliver his greeting in Italian to emphasize a message he insists on every General Audience.

POPE FRANCIS
I renew my invitation to pray for the people suffering the horror of war in Ukraine and the Holy Land, as well as in other parts of the world. Let us pray for peace, let us ask God for the gift of peace.

During his greeting in Polish, Pope Francis sent a message to those visiting Rome for the 80th anniversary of the death of the 9-member Ulma family—they were killed for hiding Jews in their home during the Holocaust. They are the first family to be beatified in the Church.
