The 2024 edition of the Mirabile Dictu awards have named the winners. The best film award went to the Spanish film “The Maid.” More than 2,000 entries were submitted in its various categories.

The feature film tells the story of St. Vicenta Maria, the woman who, in the 19th century, created a congregation to prevent women migrating to the cities from falling into prostitution.

PABLO MORENO
Director, “The Maid”

It is a story that is almost 200 years old but is very relevant. It has everything to do with the world of women, education, independence and, above all, bringing awareness to those in domestic service, which is a group that is often very mistreated.

The Mirabile Dictu contest was born to promote Catholic productions. And this was the 15th edition of the award.

LIANA MARABINI
President, Mirabile Dictu Awards

In the various editions of the festival, we have seen and awarded extraordinary films, which have then reached the market, have been distributed very well and, above all, have played a role in evangelization. So the main objective of our festival and of the award, which is in the form of a silver fish, the first Christian symbol, has that same objective: evangelization.

The war in Ukraine was also very present in the competition through the documentary Arma Christi, which won in its category. The best short film was awarded to one about the Italian-Argentine nurse Artémides Zatti, who was canonized by Pope Francis in 2022.

Among the nominations for best film was “Follow that bishop!” produced by Rome Reports. The documentary will be presented at the Sheen Center in New York next month.
