On February 14th, Pope Francis will celebrate Ash Wednesday. Following tradition, he will preside over Mass at the Basilica of St. Sabina on top of one of the seven hills of Rome.

Similar to last year, the Pope will not take part in the penitential procession leading up to the Mass. The procession begins at 4:30pm at the Church of Sant’Anselmo and will end at St. Sabina, just in time for the 5pm Mass.

In his previous Ash Wednesday homilies, Pope Francis has spoken about the way that dust can accumulate in everyday life.

POPE FRANCIS
If I live only to earn money, to have a good time, to gain a bit of prestige or a promotion in my work, I am living for dust. If I am unhappy with life because I think I do not get enough respect or receive what I think is my due, then I am simply staring at dust.

Ash Wednesday marks the start of the Lenten season, which this year runs from Feburary 14 to March 28.
