In continuing his catechesis on vices and virtues, Pope Francis warned against the human tendency to dwell in sadness and said it prevents us from moving forward. He said the habit of relishing in sadness is a form of victimhood. He challenged the faithful to manage sadness in a positive way.

POPE FRANCIS
Sadness is like the pleasure of non-pleasure. Rejoicing that something didn't happen. It is like taking a bitter, bitter, bitter candy with no sugar and no taste. And then eating the candy.

During his greeting to the audience members, the Pope asked them not to forget those suffering from war across Ukraine, Palestine, Israel and Burma.

The Pope ended his audience by recalling a feast that the Church will soon celebrate.

POPE FRANCIS
May Our Lady of Lourdes, whom we will celebrate next Sunday, accompany you with maternal tenderness on your journey. My blessing to all of you.

The celebration of Our Lady of Lourdes is part of the World Day of the Sick, a day of prayer for those suffering from illnesses that was established by Pope John Paul II.
