Spanish Cardinal Jose Luis Lacunza disappeared on January 30 in the province of Chiquiri, Panama. Since that afternoon, there has been no news of his whereabouts.

The Bishops' Conference of Panama expressed its concern through a statement and pointed out that they have already filed a report with the authorities.

Lacunza, bishop of the Panamanian Diocese of David, was created a cardinal by Pope Francis in the consistory of February 14, 2015.

CARD. JOSÉ LUIS LACUNZA
Bishop of David, Panama

I believe that in some way me becoming a cardinal indicates that the Pope wants to strengthen the life of the Church in Latin America. He also wants to feel accompanied by those he knows in some way are in tune with the Church he promotes. It is the Church that Latin America designed throughout the general conferences of the Latin American and Caribbean Bishops' Conference.

The Spaniard, a member of the Order of Augustinian Recollects, is 79 years old.
