The plane carrying 11 of the 100 Palestinian children who will receive medical treatment in Italian hospitals has landed in Rome. The first group consisted of children seriously injured during the Israeli attacks.
All of them have been taken in by the Bambino Gesù children's hospital that is under the jurisdiction of the Vatican. The group traveled to Egypt to receive urgent medical care before traveling to Italy. The second group of children will be transported on a navy ship on January 31. This mission was made possible by the efforts of the Vicar of the Custody of the Holy Land, who mediated between Palestinians, Israelis and Egyptians. In addition, the Italian government expressed its willingness to receive these Palestinian children and their families.
According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, more than 10,000 children have died in the Gaza Strip since the start of the conflict. UNICEF has classified Gaza as the “most dangerous place in the world to be a child.”
