A major milestone in the reconstruction of the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris has been completed, as the framework for the choir roof is now finished.
Following tradition and celebrating the new milestone, the youngest carpenter on the project, at just 21 years old, placed a bouquet of flowers at the top of the roof framework.
It has been nearly 5 years since the Notre Dame Cathedral burst into flames, destroying much of its historic interior. The reconstruction process began almost immediately after.
11 years before the fire, in 2008, was the last time a pope had visited the cathedral. It was during Pope Benedict XVI's trip to Paris and Lourdes, where he reflected on the historical importance of Notre Dame.
POPE BENEDICT XVI
The faith of the Middle Ages built the cathedrals, and here your ancestors came to praise God, to entrust to Him their hopes and to express their love for Him. Great religious and civil events took place in this shrine.
Paris's Notre Dame Cathedral is scheduled to re-open on December 8th. The French President has extended an invitation to Pope Francis to attend the historic event.
