“You well know that you do not need an invitation to come to your beloved Argentina” reads the letter from the newly elected president of Argentina to Pope Francis. Javier Milei has formally invited the Pope to visit his homeland. The spokesperson of the presidential palace described the invitation like this:

His presence and his message will contribute to the unity of all and will give us the necessary collective strength to preserve peace and work for prosperity and the enhancement of our country.

In November 2023, the Pope called Milei after he was elected president. In it, Pope Francis gave him words of encouragement for his term in office. After the call, the presidential cabinet issued a statement sending a message to the Pope, saying: (quote) “We look forward to your visit soon.”

However, the only trip confirmed for 2024 is Pope Francis' visit to Belgium. On other occasions, he has expressed his desire to travel to Argentina and Polynesia, but the Vatican Press Office has not confirmed these trips.
