During his catechesis on vices and virtues, Pope Francis spoke about gluttony.

He noted with concern that human beings have devoted themselves to consumption and the exploitation of goods and resources.

POPE FRANCIS
The voracity with which we have been plundering the goods of the planet for some centuries now is compromising the future of all.
We have renounced the name of men, to assume another, “consumers.” And today we speak like this in social life. Consumers
.

He also pointed out that people's relationship with food is often more complicated than it may seem. And he referenced eating disorders like bulimia, anorexia and obesity.

POPE FRANCIS
They are illnesses, often extremely painful, that are mostly linked to sufferings of the psyche and the soul. There is a connection, no? Between the psyche imbalance and the way food is consumed. Food is the manifestation of something inner: the predisposition to balance or immoderation.

As usual, at the end of the audience, Pope Francis asked for continued prayers for peace in places of conflict.
