As he does every year on the day of the Baptism of the Lord, Pope Francis baptized the children of Vatican employees in one of the grandest settings in the world: the Sistine Chapel (33:34?).
The Pope gave a short homily where he asked the parents not to lose sight of the importance of the sacrament.
POPE FRANCIS
They are the protagonists in this ceremony. Let them speak, let them walk, let them shout… they are in charge because it is their feast. They will receive the most beautiful gift, the gift of faith, the gift of the Lord.
Pope Francis also told parents not to be intimidated by the imposing setting of the Sistine Chapel and to attend to their children as if they were at home.
POPE FRANCIS
If they cry—for the moment they are silent, but one of them might give the note to start “the concert”—let them cry. If they are hungry, feed them, calmly, here. If they are hot, take off their clothes, sometimes the heat can be bad for them.
Some babies were calm after the baptism—others, not so much.
And as he always does, the Pope asked the parents to remind their children of the date of their baptism so that they could celebrate it.
