Red and white striped scarves filled the Paul VI Audience Hall of the Vatican as Pope Francis welcomed members of Unicoop-Florence and its foundation, “The Heart Melts.”

This organization is dedicated to protecting the environment and promoting solidarity initiatives. For example, it has humanitarian projects in Syria and Ukraine to provide medical care to children affected by violence.

POPE FRANCIS
You have come to grasp a fundamental human dimension: that of helping each person do something for others, that is, to live charity, factual love.

The Pope called attention to the organization's mission in various countries around the world, including one where war broke out almost two years ago.

POPE FRANCIS
Dear friends, thank you for what you do, in Italy and abroad; in particular, at this dramatic time, in support of the suffering Ukraine: it is terrible, what is happening there!

“The Heart Melts” foundation now has more than 700 volunteers and works with other humanitarian organizations to continue their mission of aid to those in need.
