After congratulating the heads of the Roman Curia and other Vatican departments on Christmas, Pope Francis went to the Paul VI Audience Hall to do the same with Vatican employees.
He thanked them for the work they do, which is sometimes hidden. But hidden does not mean that it is insignificant.
POPE FRANCIS
Good grows without making noise, multiplies unexpectedly and spreads the fragrance of joy. Don't forget this: good grows without making noise and gives that peace, that joy to the heart, which is so beautiful.
The Pope was referring to what he called the time of social networks where it seems that the only things that are valued are the things that make noise.
POPE FRANCIS
Today, we live in a time that sometimes appears obsessed with appearance; everyone is trying to showcase themselves. It is the time of “makeup.” Everyone wears makeup, not only on the face,
but they put makeup on their soul—that is bad. They try to showcase themselves. Appearing,
especially through so-called social media. It is a bit like wanting precious crystal glasses without caring if the wine is good. Good wine is drank in an ordinary glass. But in family, appearances and masks do not matter—in the family you know everything—or at any rate they last
little; what matters is that the good wine of love, tenderness, mutual compassion. And this is God's style: closeness, compassion and tenderness. And love—we know it well—makes no noise.
At the end of the Mass, Pope Francis spent time with the families present and gifted candy to the children.
