Catholics have a special opportunity to receive a plenary indulgence this Christmas season by praying before a Nativity scene in a Franciscan church.
The Conference of the Franciscan Family asked Pope Francis for the approval of this indulgence and the request was accepted.
From December 8 to February 2, 2024, a plenary indulgence will be granted to anyone who prays in front of a nativity scene, detaches themselves from all sin and takes part in sacramental confession, holy communion and prayer for the intentions of the Pope.
This opportunity for a plenary indulgence was requested in celebration of the 800th anniversary of the first ever nativity scene—which was created by St. Francis of Assisi as a product of his meditations on the life of Christ.
