Pope Francis had two special meetings: one with the family members of Palestinians suffering from the current situation in Gaza. And another with relatives of those kidnapped by the Hamas.

The latter was especially emotional. The Pope approached each family member to greet them but barely any words were exchanged.

In other instances, for many, meeting the Pope is a joyful occasion. But here, the dire situation overshadowed joy.

Thank you very much Your Holiness. This is my family. All kidnapped. May I give you a hug on behalf of my mother? Thank you very much.

Moshe Leimberg, whose wife and daughter are kidnapped, gave the Pope this embrace.

The Vatican defined these two meetings as "humanitarian" to avoid any criticism from one side or the other. Pope Francis met with simple people from different groups who are united by their suffering.
