The sounds of Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 in D minor filled one of the most beautiful and intricate basilicas in Europe on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the election of Pope Paul VI.

This free concert was a part of a series hosted by the Fondazione Pro Musica e Arte Sacra at major basilicas in Rome. The foundation's mission is to promote and preserve both sacred art and music. It is motivated by the words once said by Pope Paul VI, quote “this world in which we live needs beauty in order not to sink into despair.”

The Founder of the foundation says their work in the restoration of beauty is so future generations can enjoy it.

HANS-ALBERT CORTIAL
Founder & General President, The Fondazione Pro Musica e Arte Sacra

This is our mission. We want to bring people to beauty through music and sacred art. For me, this is God. So I hope that everyone else who comes is happy to participate in that joy through music and art and feel that inner beauty.

Since its creation in 2002, the foundation has supported various conservation and restoration projects on all four papal basilicas in Rome. Through preserving art, music and beauty, the foundation hopes to draw more people to God.
