“Pope Francis' Laundromats” have opened in the northern Italian city of Turin. There now are two facilities in the city that offer showers, washing machines, hygiene products and more to those in need.

The initiative was inspired by Pope Francis and his desire to help bring dignity to those who are homeless. And the opening of the laundromats was made possible with the collaboration of the Community of Sant'Egidio and the companies Procter & Gamble and Haier Europe.

The papal almoner, Cardinal Konrad Krajewski, says the initiative is quote “a further opportunity to be close to wounded humanity.” With this opening, there are now three Italian cities that have “Pope Francis' Laundromats” available for the homeless—Turin, Genoa and Rome.
