This weekend, the Vatican will wrap up the nearly month-long meeting of the Synod on Synodality.

But first, on Friday, Pope Francis will hold a worldwide day of prayer and fasting for peace in the Middle East.

POPE FRANCIS
War erases the future. It erases future. I urge believers to take only one side in this conflict: that of peace.
With this in mind, I have decided to call Friday, October 27 as a day of fasting, prayer and penance.

On Friday evening the Pope will hold public adoration and a rosary prayer vigil at 6pm in St. Peter's Square.

On Saturday, the members of the Synod will release a document that outlines their objectives and proposals for the future of the Church. It will be around 40 pages and there will be a discussion which gives each participant a chance to have their voice heard.

Each circle and each individual member may submit proposals for elimination, addition or replacement of the passages of the draft. Everything said in each circle will have to be approved one at a time by an absolute majority of those present.

The document does not hold any jurisdictional power nor will it change doctrine. But it is expected to cover suggestions that align with the Synod themes of communion, participation and mission.

On Sunday at 10am in St. Peter's Basilica, the 16th General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops will officially conclude with a Mass. The Synod members, other cardinals and bishops and even Pope Francis will gather to celebrate the close of the historic event.

Directly following Sunday's Mass, Pope Francis will resume his regular schedule of leading the Angelus prayer for pilgrims in St. Peter's Square.
