Pope Francis began his General Audience by greeting the hundreds of pilgrims. The Pope shook the hand of one man who climbed onto the security fence to approach him.

During his message to Italian-speaking pilgrims, the Pope made a very clear request.

POPE FRANCIS
I constantly think of the serious situation in Palestine and Israel. I encourage the release of the hostages and the entry of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Pope Francis also reminded those present of the day of fasting, prayer and penance for peace that he has called for on Friday. He encouraged people to participate in the event that will be held in Rome.

POPE FRANCIS
I remind all of you that the day after tomorrow, Friday, Oct. 27, we will experience a day of fasting, prayer, and penance. At 6 p.m. in St. Peter's, we will gather to pray and to beg for peace in the world.

But the Pope also remembered other countries in the world that have been plagued by conflict, such as Ukraine. And he urged pilgrims to pray for all those facing violence.

The General Audience was set to the music of the Vivat choir from Poland, with its members dressed in red and white.
