The Vatican has confirmed that the Nicaraguan government has released 12 priests. They have been sent to Rome, where they are being housed in different areas of the diocese.
A statement from the Nicaraguan Ortega regime assured that the priests had already left for their destination.
They cited the names of each one, but among them is not Bishop Rolando Alvarez, who was previously sentenced to 26 years in prison.
The transfer of the 12 priests is the only public agreement reached between the Vatican and Nicaragua after relations between the two deteriorated in recent years, especially after the expulsion of the apostolic nuncio from the country in 2022.
