Pope Francis held a private meeting at the Vatican with Sultan Ahmed Al-Jaber, who is the President-Designate of COP28, the upcoming Climate Action Conference in Dubai.
The Pope has spoken about his high expectations for COP28. In his apostolic exhortation released on October 4, he spoke hopefully of the conference and its role in bringing together the international community to renew the fight against climate change.
At the same time, he called out the United Arab Emirates for their conflict of interest as hosts of the COP28 climate conference as they are a “great exporter of fossil fuels.”
The COP28 conference will bring together over 140 heads of state from around the world to discuss pressing global issues.
