On the day of Our Lady of the Rosary, Pope Francis made an appeal for the importance of having a relationship with Mary.
POPE FRANCIS
In front of the Mother, the noblest feelings of a person are awakened.
When Mary hears our prayers, she makes this gesture, which is the most Marian gesture, she points to Jesus: “Do whatever he tells you.” It is the typical Marian gesture. No, she doesn't do it like this. She doesn't do it like that, no. She points the way and speaks to her Son so that he understands.
The Pope delivered these words in a private audience with members of the Spanish Confraternity of Our Lady of Montserrat, who were gathered at the Vatican to celebrate the 800th anniversary of their founding.
Present at the audience was a statue of Our Lady of Monsterrat. The Pope prayed in front of the Virgin. The original statue draws in over two million visitors each year to a monastery settled in the mountains of Northeastern Spain.
