After the opening Mass for the Synod, Pope Francis greeted 20 of the 21 new cardinals that were present. It was their first Mass with the Pope, just four days after being made a cardinal during the Consistory.
The only cardinal who was not in attendance was 96-year-old Capuchin Fr. Luis Pascual Dri. He is a confessor at the Shrine of Our Lady of Pompeii in Buenos Aires.
